Registration

Registering a birth must be done within 3 days; the day of birth is not included in this. If the last day of those 3 days falls on a Saturday, Sunday or an official Dutch holiday, the baby needs to be registered on the first working day and at the council of where it was born.

You can register the birth online via the council website, instructions can be found here. If you are unable to do this online, you must book an appointment.

The address of the Council Register Office is:

Stadskantoor, Stadsplateau 1, Utrecht.
Opening times: 9am to 5.30pm on weekdays (Thursday until 8pm). Please note an appointment is required!
Tel: 14 030.

Once the birth has been registered, the paediatric health centre (consultatie bureau) will be notified. During the first week a health worker will visit you at your home to perform both the heel prick and hearing test on your baby.
