The baby must be registered within three working days after the birth at the local register office (Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays do not count). Besides proof of identification you also need a marriage certificate or a certificate of acknowledgment.

After this registration with the local council, the health clinic will be notified of the birth of your child. During the first week they will visit you at home to perform both a heel prick test and hearing test on your baby.
